This was terrific! Our dogs have zero relationship to their wolf ancestors. The sleep in our bed and make sure we put pumpkin in their food for the alleged health benefits (I have my doubts). But they love us and we love them. They are always so excited when we get home from work - my children have never been that excited to see me ever much less on a random Tuesday evening. I know my dog would die for me, he is that loyal and protective. That is unmatched love to be treasured.
Agreed! Dogs forgive us everything, love us no matter what we look like or how much money we have, and bring joy and enthusiasm to every mundane thing. It's all love, here! 😊🐶🐕
My worry is that I'm far closer to my cave ancestors than the average British citizen. They are in fact my parents and my aunts and uncles. They grow vegetables, chop wood, kill and chop up animals for food, skin them and sell the fur, build things. Even my brother, MY GENERATION, will say a thing like: "Gonna change the roof on my house this summer." How does he even know how to do that? I know FOR A FACT that he didn't go to no roof-changing-school. And besides, I have zero interest in any of these...chores. I just want to sit on the sofa, eat chocolate, read books, stroke a suitably evolved and modernised pet and make up stuff in my head while being a vegetarian. Perhaps I'm just ahead of my time?
Lol, how does he know how to do that?! That's hilarious 😂 to be fair, two of my brothers can do things like build houses and I have no idea where they learned these skills because I can barely manage to survive in a tent overnight without crying.
Wonderful read. I remember a lady on a bus once asking a dog owner if the dog has some "bear" in him. As if dogs could have bear DNA. Indeed the dog looked like a bear. It is crazy that they all came from wolves.
The time spent on the image was 💯 worth it 😂 I tried to explain the concept of white dog poo to my Gen Z half sister a few weeks ago. She simple didn’t understand 🤷♀️
Our bulldog could not handle change either. Move a dining chair? Not on his watch. Change the potted flowers in the front garden? Nope, not allowed. I think the squished nose breeds just don't get enough oxygen to their brains.

Brilliant piece Georgina. 👍🏼
You just reminded me of a dog called Jip, he looked like a border collie who’d been cut off at the knees (very weird!)
He lived in the street behind my house when I was a kid and he spent all day chasing cars and trying to bite their tyres!
Of course this was the early ‘70’s so not many cars about, the poor sod would drop dead of exhaustion these days! 😂
Thanks Lou! 🧡 Aw Jib sounds great! I remember dogs getting up to all sorts back in the 70s. Was a wild time 🤣
This is so brilliant! So many great paragraphs but I think my favourite is the turban one. Perhaps we get the dogs we deserve?!
Thanks Faith! Aw that doggo was such a dafty! I did fall for her a little bit 😍

Thanks Karina! I've met a few bear-like doggos but I think they were probably just fat 😅

Thanks Sara! Maybe with the white dog poo you just had to be there? 🤣
Wonderful Georgina! Loved the graphics too.

Thank you! Haha yes, I think you're right. Delightfully grunty, but not all that bright 😍
A riotous, falling-all-over-myself style full of sharp left turns! Great.
Thank you so much! It was fun to write 😊
Lovely morning laughs! Thank you, Georgina!
Thank you, Lyndsey! Makes me glad to hear!
Brilliant post. Love me a good celebration of our four-legged comforters.
Thank you! So pleased about all the dog friends on substack!
Love. It. xxx
