Whenever I stay in a Premier Inn, I'm scared Lenny Henry is going to sneak in, get into bed and say "Shhh, let it happen".

The one-sided toast is puzzling. Don't they have a toaster? Not a person hired to do the toasting, but the appliance? This is starting to sound Geogina-esque, I think your piece broke me, so I'll shut up now.

Hahaha the mysteries of the Premier Inn breakfast buffet! I'm definitely a bit creeped out by the Lenny Henry thing.

I'll never sleep in a purple bed again.

Are the beds purple? Surely not! I've slept in LOADS of them - I feel like I'd notice. Then again, I didn't realise it wasn't Tuesday until it was almost Friday, so... 👍

I've blocked out that Lenny Henry evening, so I probably remember it wrong. But the last time I stayed there a few years ago, I picture a purple blanket or throw.

There's definitely some purple involved but I think it's more ‘accents’ rather than anything more Barbara Cartland…

I wish we were friends but I dunno where to sign up. I like how you view everything from the outside looking in, because I do that too... Even alternative subcultures.

We are friends now! I have made it so. Outsiders have to stick together. Although not in the gelatinous blob sense.

Yay! I don't eat gelatin so we're good on that front. What have you been reading recently?

Mostly substack for the last week or so. I'm gearing up to read something big and non-fictional. Maybe Iain McGilchrist. How about you?

Ah, I'm just looking into Ian's work as I wasn't familiar. It sounds like pretty thoughtful stuff.

I'm very slowly re-reading the Count of Monte Cristo. I'm enjoying it but still find I need motivation to read novels. I read more poetry. I was reading Allen Ginsberg out loud yesterday in my most northern accent.

Haha I bet that sounded great! My novel reading these days will be either classics or supermarket domestic thrillers. Never read Dumas.

It's amazing. Every chapter a new goal or threat is dangled in front of the reader. It's marvellous, but, God is it long. What do you look for in a book?

Surprised at a request for two-sided toast! Customer service award due there!

(I was going to ask about the machine where you queue patiently as the toast goes through, but I see Dean's already mentioned it! God, we are pedants!)

I'm gluten free so they have to make my toast special. Or half-make it. Whatever!

Haha I need to remember to consider all the details when I write these posts, don't I? 😅
