That you went out with a poet was bad enough, that he took you to a poetry night where he was performing is a flag so red as to mimic the faces of any sane person watching him.

I used to go to those nights until all the posh rapping became too painful.

I need to go to this museum!

THIS should be read at an open mike night. Maybe it will save everyone from some bad poetry.

Haha it would be funny to see what kind of reaction it got! 🤣

You’d have to go first. After that, anything could happen. ;)

Haha! Being once a poet myself I dated two and married one (but only once I’d persuaded him to give up poetry). I went to many of these nights, for my sins (mainly the sin of seeking an audience for my own poetry) so I know of what you speak. The last time I was dragged to one with the offer of money, I came out muttering that handguns should be legalised. Brilliant piece. Found the museum!

Haha thanks Ros! Yes the poet pain is real 🤣 The museum would be fun - maybe I'll found it for real one day!

V funny. I think I used to follow the museum on Twitter (RIP) unless there is another similar one. It’s on my list of museums to visit. Thanks for the reminder. Maybe they should have a no couples policy on the door. Is that mean?

Haha, no, but it's funny watching them wandering around... Definitely a good place to visit. I loved Zagreb in general. A cool, laid back city.

This is incredible and I was laughing throughout, the people on the metro were looking at me, wondering what was so funny (I wish i could have shared it with them, especially the wretched couples!)

This is so cruel but also so hilarious:

"I smiled as they stopped making eye contact, and worry clouded their individual brows. I chuckled as they drifted apart, each turning down a different hallway. Alone."

You chuckled! You're a legend.

And those first dates!

I'm recently divorced with zero interest in any kind of relationship, just happy to do my own thing and hang out with my 6 year old daughter as much as I can, but I'm almost tempted to try to go on some lousy first dates simply so I can contribute to your museum. That might be a fun little side project 🤣

Brilliant, thanks Daniel! Let me know if you have any terrible dates - and definitely collect souvenirs 🤣

The Museum of Broken Relationships sounds like an Elbow album.

The Museum of Broken Relationships sounds extraordinary, Georgina. The vibe you got from watching couples' reactions reminds me a bit of watching The War of the Roses back in 1989: Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in a true-love to bitter-divorce black comedy. I sat there thinking about all the optimistic couples watching who ultimately follow that trajectory, though hopefully without the violence.

Your Museum of Terrible First Dates is a genius idea!

Your comments about dating (or not dating) poets reminds me there is an acronym (so I'm told!) – LOMP – for Lonely Older Male Poet, who shows up at poetry events and ultimately ends up pestering the lovely young female poets (LYFPs??).

Haha love that acronym! LOMP, indeed! The Museum of Broken Relationships is actually brilliant - recommend if you're ever in Zagreb (which I also recommend). Oh yes, I loved that film and yes, I imagine it's a bad idea to watch that with your lovely new love 🤣
